Celebrating The British Rose
Celebrating World Rose Day at Pecksniff's.
Here at Pecksniff’s, the rose has been celebrated as Britain’s favourite flower, making an appearance in many of our best and most well-known scents.
To recognise World Rose Day, here’s some facts you may not know about this beautiful bloom…
Over 300 Species
There are over 300 species of roses and thousands of cultivars, making them one of the most diverse flower types in the world.

How Old?!
According to fossil evidence, roses have existed for over 35 million years. Eucalyptus plants also appeared around this time, along with many modern species of mammals.
Some Roses Are Edible
Rose petals and rose hips (the fruit of the rose) are used not only in perfumes, but also in teas, jams, syrups, and even desserts.

Essential Oil
Rose oil is one of the most precious essential oils, requiring approximately 60,000 roses to make just one ounce of rose oil.
Each colour of rose has a meaning
-
Red: Love and passion
-
White: Purity and remembrance
-
Yellow: Friendship and joy
-
Pink: Gratitude and grace
-
Orange: Energy and enthusiasm

Most Expensive Rose
The world’s most expensive rose is the “Juliet Rose,” developed by David Austin. It took 15 years and cost around £3 million to breed.
Blue Roses
Some roses are blue in appearance, but true blue roses don't exist naturally - they’ve only been created through genetic modification or dye.

The Largest Rose
The largest rose bush in the world is reportedly a Lady Banks rose that lives in Arizona's Rose Tree Museum. It covers over 700 square meters!
Black Roses
Black roses aren’t truly black - they’re very dark red or purple, often referred to as black for dramatic effect.
